Couldn't quite get it, but really feel the concept.
The yellow ocre and browns were too thick, could be remedied but I'll keep it at this and work on coloring layer. Real glad to be over my sausage finger fear.
Finally went back and topped off the Maggie Smith piece from earlier this month.
Some things worked, many things didn't, but it's all good. The inconsistency of dark to the left and lack of dark to the right make it look like two separate days of painting.
Studying bird anatomy a little went a long way this month. I'm certainly no Dr. Frankenstein, but even simple knowledge of head one connected to the neck bone have made life drawing fun again.
McDonalds coffee cups aren't what they used to be..
The curvature of the vertebra - improved spacial awareness.
Various angles still cause me no end of trouble, and this pose was no exception.
2014 is my "dig deeper" year, meaning accelerated output, quality and creativity. Thick black boarders are something I've rallied against, but they actually make pictures pop.
I felt very rusty with pencil, pad and paints this week and so decided to just blaze on. Unlike the Maggie Smith piece, I tried for a tonally realistic base for Lady Edith's skin.
Proportions in the eyes put the whole piece out of balance but I'll try remedying it in the second layer.
I was really pleased with some of the work done in 2013, but in all honesty I'd lost passion for what I was doing.
Luckily during the New Year I got to visit my hometown Rome, rekindle the fire, and rethink what of been wanting to achieve.
Although studying design, I'd fallen much more into the business aspect and away from the creative which was kinda disastrous. Pumping out work and really not enjoying the process or growin my skills.. The amount of times I put my kneecap through pieces that weren't going my way..
So new year, new start, and where better to start than with Downton Abbey!
