Tetris - color concepting

Carrying on with this weeks trials, tried using a few different brushstrokes alongside the colour variants. Overall it's become clear that in order for everything to fit together, composition is critical.

30cm x 45cm / wood / acrylics

Some interesting tones in there to think on.

Immigration Foliage

Spending a few hours at the Immigration Office in Tokyo gave me more than a few hours to get out the sketchbook and pen.

Nothing mind blowing, but prepping for the foliage on the Sekaido canvas seemed a good idea.

Didn't have time to apply the deterioration concept to each piece, but did get a visa renewal.

Sekaido - day 1

Day one - just laying the foundations. Getting the perspective down was pretty smooth sailing, pixels up next.

Finding a strong foreground visual was pretty tough. Going with the theme of digital dreaming or digital deterioration was always the concept but having a human element always draws the viewers attention.

Slices

Sliced is a theme started a couple of years back, focusing on contours and form.

Floating is an element that I hadn't really explored, so looking into it now should breath new life into it.

The apple melting from a few weeks back got me into the blobs look.

It's another way to describe the form and emulate movement.

Slices

Not quite where I want to be but I'll take it.

This kind of floating look needs a lot of work.

Pigeon stuff

Pigeons rock.

Drawing them should be easy enough but I'm still struggling.

I'll look into their anatomy a little this week to strengthen my bases.

Grape

Again using artist Gretchen Hancock's work as a strong influence, still life fruit will allow me to focus on broader, more blocky, strokes.

Lacking detail, fruits can be manipulated significantly with the brush.

Pixels!

I've had pixels on the brain the past few weeks.

Not too bad for a first try, squares themselves don't lend themselves to interesting textures, but I've got a few ideas in mind for the next piece.

Jigsaw Concepts

Mocking up some ideas for the childrens book.

The story is about 60% complete.

Cherry Pop probably won't make the cut.

Adventure Time with Finn and Jake has been eating so much of my time recently. It's pretty fantastic.

Jigsaw concept

Pizza last night had me feeling guiltier than usual.. Let's see what we can do with that greasy box!

Using the card as a template allowed for plenty of mock ups of the jigsaw character.

Working with shading to create a more vivid environment.

Keeping in mind the idea of a childrens story book, at this point keeping it simple is best. Flesh out the story or theme, then build the environment to fit this lil guy.

Pink!

A lonely tube of pink acrylic had been lying the apartment for months, needing a good home.

Sold

Pretty happy with the result ")

Gold Ring

A4 wood - Acrylics / pencils

It'd been a while since I'd last tried a portrait and felt this worked our pretty well.

Although this took a little over 2 hours, I'd made the mistake of thinking her eyes would balance naturally. The left side of her face is exactly what I was looking for.. The right side, not so much.
