Tetris Fades

Found this guy half finished from last year, the perspective is way off but it'll give me a chance to try a couple of different shades and fades.

Apple Bits

Wanted to get the ball rolling here so didn't spend too long on it.

Slicing and splitting is going to be the next step. Decided on apples to start with to better understand shading and not get too caught up on details.

Just a couple of hours here so pretty pleased with the outcome.

Tones

Wanted to go as rough as possible for this piece.

The parts that give description to the features always get my attention - in this case the hair.

Once the appealing parts are covered I generally blaze through the rest leaving a bit of a monstrosity.

Sonic Gif test

Phew - so not a complete disaster.

These 8 frames were real time intensive, and to get something worthwhile is going to require about 100 cells.

Jogging done. Running up next.

Tetris

Kinda got hunkered down with the Tetris type work last week.

Was wondering what the next step could be, applying a full set of blocks at the base really detracted from the light source.

Gotto learn to be more patient with these, the final part got a little sloppy.

Final Step

The final piece for the jogging animation.

Phew, let's see how the animation comes out

11pm

It's 11 at night but had to get this piece down.

Moving from geometric shapes to the human form - it's easy to get locked down into a phase but I'm hoping the next piece will bridge the two.

Sketch came out ok so that's always a good omen.

100th Post

Oh snap!

Looking back on some of the earlier stuff is pretty chilling.. Even a lot of the recent stuff too "/ (I'm talking specifically about the Downton Abbey phase (WTF)).

The main thing for me is just taking a glance back at steps forward. Mainly my fear of acrylics, colours and working on large scale pieces. Getting over those hurdles has made painting a relaxing activity for me, which was the biggest step. Last year a failed piece would cause me to smash it into smithereens. Nowadays it's much more likely I'll just take it to the trash can around 2am when everyone is sleeping.

Much love to anyone following this blog.

猫終わった

Felt great working on this one.

Larger scale canvas allowed for broad strokes to really get into the texture of the fur.

犬ちゃん

Loved this little guy.

The short hair breeds means there's a lot more definition and bone structure to focus on.

Avoiding black initially really helped build tones and layers.

Sonic - Step by Step

Getting there.

猫ちゃん

Puurrsuaded by a gorgeous picture online to give this piece a try.

I've been off my game with larger scale paintings recently. Just an A3 piece but being comfortable with scaling up and down means a lot to me.

Slices

Not quite where I want to be but I'll take it.

This kind of floating look needs a lot of work.

Sketches

Thanks to a national holiday here in Japan managed to get a few more hours of sketching down.

Hoping to get these acryld up by the end of the week..

Sonic Cell

2 down and about 70 to go!

Still not rushing this process - each cell takes at least 3 hours to finish.

Pixel Perspective

This kind of free hand perspective is closer to what I'm going for.

Now the proportions are a little more on point I can begin work on shading.

Already ideas are buzzing for application with 8bit pixelated characters.
